Safety & Privacy Policy

The short version: the toy itself asks for nothing and stores nothing about you or your child. No accounts, no ads. The one exception is an optional, grown-ups-only email signup for our printable packs, which only happens if a parent chooses to enter their email.

What we collect

From the toy itself, nothing that identifies you. We don't ask a child for names, emails, or logins, we don't show ads, and we don't set our own cookies. The one thing we ever collect is a parent's email address, and only if a grown-up chooses to sign up for our free printable packs (see Printables & email below). The site is delivered through a hosting provider (Cloudflare) that may process basic, non-identifying request and performance data to serve and protect the site, standard for any website, but that isn't personal information, and it isn't sold or used to track you.

Keeping & deleting information

Because the toy itself doesn't collect personal information, there's nothing about you or your child for us to keep or delete from it. We don't build profiles, we don't keep logs that identify you, and there's no account to close. The only data involved is the basic, non-identifying information our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes to serve and protect the site, which isn't tied to you and isn't kept to track you. The one exception is the optional, grown-ups-only printables email described below: we keep it only for as long as you stay subscribed, and we delete it promptly whenever you unsubscribe or ask us to.

The full retention picture, plainly:

Parent email (printables list): kept while you're subscribed; deleted automatically when you unsubscribe, or within 30 days if you ask.
Support emails: kept up to 24 months so we can help you, then purged; deleted sooner on request.
Purchase records: held by the app store and RevenueCat under an anonymous ID with no name or email attached; deletion available on request.
Your child's data: none collected, ever, so there's nothing to retain.
On-device play state (like the sticker album and settings): lives only on your device and never reaches us; deleting the app deletes it.

Nothing is kept longer than needed for the purpose you gave it, nothing is reused for anything else, and nothing is ever sold. Our security program is minimization: the strongest safeguard is that there's nothing to breach. The few grown-up systems we do use (the email list, purchase processing, hosting) each sit behind unique credentials and two-factor authentication, hold only the minimum above, and get reviewed every year.

Want anything deleted? Email hello@whatthatdo.com with any wording at all, and it's done within 7 days.

Sound & voice

The friendly voice that reads the fun facts and the silly sound effects are both generated right in your browser (using text-to-speech and the Web Audio API). Nothing is recorded, and nothing is sent anywhere.

Offline & caching

If you add the site to your home screen or come back again, your browser may store a copy of the app (a “service worker” cache) so it loads fast and even works offline. That cache lives on your device. It isn't personal information and it isn't sent to us.

Links to other sites

A “Buy a tired parent a coffee” button near the top of the home page opens an optional tip via Venmo or PayPal. If you tap it, you'll be taken to Venmo or PayPal, and their own privacy policies apply there.

Purchases

The app offers optional one-time purchases to unlock more characters and play modes. These go through the app store's own billing (Google Play or Apple) behind a grown-ups-only gate. We don't collect or store any payment details, and no purchase ever requires a name, email, or login. In the app, the unlock is managed with the help of RevenueCat, which works without a name, email, or login; the payment itself is processed by the app store, and we never see or store payment details.

Printables & email (grown-ups only)

On our printables page, a parent can choose to enter their email to get a free printable pack, or to buy a printable PDF. This is entirely optional, sits behind a grown-ups-only gate, and is never about a child. If you sign up, your email is handled by our email provider (MailerLite) and is used only to send the pack you asked for plus the occasional update. We keep it only for as long as you stay subscribed; every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time at support@whatthatdo.com, and we remove it promptly. Printable purchases are handled by Payhip and its payment processor (Stripe or PayPal); we never see or store your card details.

Sharing

The “Share” button uses your device's built-in share feature. We don't see what you share or who you share it with.

Children's safety

We collect no personal information from children, full stop. This site is made to be friendly for kids, and we never ask a child for names, emails, or logins. The only signup anywhere on the site is the optional printables email above, which is grown-ups-only and parental-gated, never for children.

Some characters include gentle, age-appropriate safety lessons, like which things are too hot to touch, which bugs sting, what to do if you ever get lost, and that your body belongs to you. These are always warm and reassuring, never scary, and they're meant to support the safety chats you have together as a family, not replace them.

Parents & guardians

You're in charge of your child's information, and since we don't collect any, there's nothing for us to share, sell, or hand back. You can always contact us to ask what (if anything) we have about your child, to ask us to delete it, or to tell us to stop any collection, and we'll honor those requests promptly. Optional purchases stay behind a grown-ups-only gate so a child can't make one on their own.

We do not currently show ads.
