What's here

Twenty-five bugs, and not the boring lineup. Yes, you'll find the ladybug and the honeybee, but you'll also find a beetle that navigates by the Milky Way and a spider that dances for its life. Tap any bug and it wiggles, flashes, or sings, then tells you one true thing about itself. Toddlers who are in their "everything on the sidewalk is fascinating" phase tend to camp out here for a while.

Meet these first

How to play (60 seconds)

Open the bugs page and ask your toddler to find the bug with spots. When they tap the ladybug, name it together, then ask what color it is. Next, ask them to find the one that glows in the dark, and when the firefly blinks, blink your own eyes along with it. Finish with a "which bug is the strongest?" hunt and flex your arms together when the rhino beetle shows up. Three taps, three new words, done before the attention span runs out.

Good to know

Bug names are surprisingly good vocabulary builders because so many of them are compound words a toddler can take apart: lady-bug, fire-fly, grass-hopper, dragon-fly. Saying the two halves slowly, then snapping them together, gives kids a fun little pattern to copy. If you want to keep it going away from the screen, the free Starter Pack on our printables page has first-words cards and a 50-word checklist you can print in a minute. Find it at /printables.

Keep exploring

Bug fans usually branch out fast. Try dinosaurs for more creatures with big facts, ocean-animals for critters that live underwater instead of underfoot, birds for the animals that eat half these bugs, and farm-animals for a gentler barnyard pace. Or head back to the homepage to see every theme in one place.
