What's here

Twelve cat breeds, from a hairless wonder to a gentle giant, each one tappable. Tap a cat and it climbs, flops, scoots, or chats, then shares a fact about what makes that breed itself. If your toddler already loves the four house cats over in cats, this is the bigger crew they were promised.

Breed names turn out to be great toddler material. "Munchkin" and "Ragdoll" are basically already toddler words, and the fancy ones are fun to fail at together.

Meet these first

The Abyssinian, British Shorthair, Russian Blue, and Tortoiseshell round out the dozen, and the tortie's swirly orange-and-black coat is worth the visit on its own.

How to play (60 seconds)

Play "find the cat." Which one has no fur? Which one has spots like a leopard? Which one has the shortest legs? Then flip it: your toddler picks a cat, you guess it from their description, and you guess wrong a lot, because being wrong is the funniest thing you can do. End with the Siamese and take turns doing your best chatty meow back at it.

Good to know

A dozen cats that all look different is a quiet sorting lesson. Same word, "cat," stretched across big, small, fluffy, and bald, which is exactly how toddlers learn what a word really covers. Describing words come along free: soft, big, little, spotty.

The free first-words cards and 50-word checklist live on the printables page for cat practice away from the screen.

Start with the original four in cats if you haven't met them, then let dog breeds make its counterargument. Pets has the pouncing kitten plus the rest of the household, and animal sounds turns all that meowing into a game. The whole collection is on the homepage.
