Twelve sea creatures, from the biggest animal that has ever lived down to a seahorse hanging onto a strand of seaweed. Tap one and it leaps, puffs, pulses, or glides, then shares a fact strange enough that you'll double-check it yourself. (We did. They hold up.)

The ocean theme is where the facts get genuinely weird, which makes it the best one for the grown-up in the room.

Meet these first

• Whale. The blue whale is bigger than any dinosaur ever was, and it sings songs across the whole ocean.
• Octopus. Eight wiggly arms, three hearts, blue blood, and an ink cloud for vanishing.
• Dolphin. Talks in clicks and whistles, and dolphins even call each other by special name-whistles.
• Sea Turtle. Glides on big flippers and can hold her breath for hours while sleeping underwater.
• Pufferfish. Gulps water when scared and puffs into a spiky ball too prickly to eat.
• Clownfish. Lives safe inside a stinging anemone that doesn't sting him.
• Narwhal. The unicorn of the sea. That swirly tusk is really a giant tooth poking through its lip.
• Seahorse. Swims standing up, and it's the daddy seahorse who carries the babies.
• Jellyfish. No brain, no bones, no heart. Just pulses along wherever the water goes.

Crab, starfish, and a shark round out the reef.

How to play (60 seconds)

Puff your cheeks out like a pufferfish and let your toddler poke them flat. Then wiggle eight arms, glide like a sea turtle, and pulse like a jellyfish. Ocean animals move in wonderfully different ways, so this theme plays best as a body game. For the finding game, ask for the biggest one, the one with all the arms, and the one hiding in the flower that stings.

Good to know

Opposites live all over this theme. The whale is huge and the seahorse is tiny; the mako over in sharks is fast and the sea turtle takes her time. Pairing words like big and small while pointing at real examples is how those words move from heard to used, and it happens here without anyone arranging a lesson.
